The discovery, preservation, education, and sharing of original artwork and historical materials from the video game industry

What Exactly is the Interactive Art Collection?

Established in 2021, the Interactive Art Collection is a non-profit organization focused on the discovery, preservation, education, and sharing of the original art and historical materials from the video game industry. We seek out past and present industry professionals and offer to care for and preserve both their physical work and their historical legacy. Unlike traditional museums, the Interactive Art Collection provides traveling exhibits in the form of “pop-up museums”, bringing the rich history of the video game industry to the people rather than forcing them to come to us. Our collection doesn’t sit in a museum vault, waiting to be paraded out occasionally. Our exhibits are constantly evolving and on the move, making them available to an incredibly broad audience.

Current Traveling Museum Exhibits

The Art of Nintendo Power

We curate and maintain the largest collection of original art and production materials from Nintendo Power Magazine on the planet. Our Art of Nintendo Power exhibits consist of a selection of artifacts from our archive of almost Four-Hundred individual pieces. We have knowledgeable experts walking the exhibition floor to talk attendees through the storied production and art history of the magazine. Every piece is completely unique, providing a historically rich nostalgic adventure you can’t see anywhere else.

Counselor’s Corner

Before the days of the internet, information starved gamers couldn’t just “Google it”. Enter the Nintendo Power Line -- a hotline you could call and get answers to your burning Nintendo game quandaries from real live people. The folks on the other end of that phone were call Nintendo Game Play Counselors, and very little about them was widely known until now! Working with a myriad of former Game Play Counselors, The Interactive Art Collection has built a comprehensive exhibit that tells the story of the GPCs! This display includes but is not limited to a faithful recreation of a Game Play Counselor’s workstation within the Washington call center. This exhibit is completely composed of artifacts used by Counselors at their desks, creating a truly authentic experience.

That Sounds Cool! What Else?

Historians Helping Historians

We are a force-multiplier for video game historians. We love helping other historically minded organizations and researchers make their work as well informed as we possibly can. From YouTube content and documentaries to podcasts and well crafted tweets! We are thrilled to share our knowledge and expertise no matter the size of your project.

Placement Services

Sometimes we come across artists or game industry professionals with pieces that aren’t quite right for our archive. In these cases we are happy to use our experience and strong position within the industry to help evaluate and sell items on behalf of the owner. We do this for no commission or other fees (aside for any costs we incur while preparing the item for sale). We are honored to have provided this service for legendary items such as a sealed copy of Stadium Events for the NES, a 1990 Nintendo World Championships cartridge, and multiple pieces of Nintendo Game Play Counselor memorabilia.
